CDP Climate A List 2025
Being included in CDP’s Climate A List recognises companies that demonstrate leadership in environmental transparency and climate action. CDP evaluates corporate disclosures on climate risks, governance, targets and performance. Achieving an A rating reflects our strong commitment to managing climate impacts, reducing emissions and providing transparent, high-quality environmental data to stakeholders. It confirms that climate considerations are embedded in our strategy and decision-making.
EcoVadis Gold Medal 2025
The EcoVadis Gold Medal places Kalmar among the top-performing companies assessed globally for sustainability management. The rating evaluates environmental performance, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. This recognition highlights the robustness of our sustainability governance, our commitment to ethical business conduct and our ongoing work to strengthen responsible practices across our value chain.
Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
Kalmar has approved near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets validated by SBTi. We are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the 1.5°C warming scenario, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement. This commitment ensures that our climate actions are grounded in climate science and aligned with global efforts to limit warming, reinforcing our accountability in driving meaningful emissions reductions.
United Nations Global Compact initiative – Active participant
As a signatory to the UN Global Compact, Kalmar commits to aligning its strategies and operations with ten universally accepted principles covering human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. Participation reinforces our dedication to responsible business practices and supports our ambition to contribute to broader sustainable development goals through accountable and transparent operations.
The UN Global Compact helps businesses contribute towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a set of 17 global goals that aim to achieve prosperity for people and the planet by 2030, and companies have an important role in reaching them. At Kalmar, our vision is to be the forerunner in sustainable material handling equipment and services, and by working towards this vision we support especially the following SDGs:
SDG 5: Gender Equality
Kalmar views gender balance as a key driver for innovation and better decision-making.
- Embracing respect: Kalmar strives to ensure equal opportunities for all its employees and has zero tolerance for discrimination in all its forms. A diverse work environment where employees feel included is considered to drive creativity, innovation and growth, as it encourages individuals to reveal their knowledge and skills.
- Recruitment: The company has integrated gender-neutral recruitment practices and "bias-free" talent reviews to ensure women are represented in the internal leadership pipeline.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
As a UNGC participant, Kalmar emphasizes social responsibility across its global footprint.
- Safety First: Kalmar integrates high-level occupational health and safety standards into its own operations as well as into its equipment design (e.g., ergonomic cabins and collision-avoidance automation).
- Human Rights: Through the UNGC framework, Kalmar conducts human rights due diligence within its value chain to prevent adverse impacts on people.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
Kalmar drives the modernization of global trade infrastructure.
- Innovation: By developing new technologies and process improvements Kalmar promotes resilient and sustainable industrialisation.
- Low-emission steel: Kalmar strives to secure early access to low-emission steel on the market and increase the share of it used in the equipment.
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Kalmar applies circular economy principles to the lifecycle of its equipment.
- Material substitution: Replacing virgin materials with recycled alternatives and innovative materials with lower environmental footprints.
- Lifecycle solutions: Focusing on lifecycle solutions to extend the lifetime of existing machinery rather than replacing it. By extending the operational life of its equipment, the company reduces the need for new production and the associated resource consumption and waste generation.
SDG 13: Climate Action
This is the cornerstone of Kalmar's sustainability strategy.
- Net-Zero Commitment: Kalmar has set science-based targets (SBTs) to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% and Scope 3 emissions by 40% by 2030 (using a 2023 baseline). The long-term target is to reach net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2045. With these targets, Kalmar aims to contribute to limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
- Eco portfolio: A major focus is on maintaining a fully electric product portfolio to help customers eliminate their own carbon footprints.
