What is Move2Green?

Move2Green is Kalmar’s ambitious five-year R&D program and ecosystem. It is co-funded by Business Finland through the Leading company challenge (Veturi) competition. To advance the program's mission, Kalmar will build an ecosystem of 150 partners, including industrial organisations, technology companies, research institutions, and universities.

What is Move2Green's vision and mission?

The program will advance the elimination of all carbon emissions in heavy material handling through a focus on electrification and data-enabled services. The Move2Green vision is to enable customers’ net-zero logistics chains in ports, terminals, and other heavy industrial logistics by 2045.

Move2Green will increase Kalmar’s research, development and innovation activities in Finland and create new jobs and new business.

What is the overall investment?

Business Finland has granted 20 million euros for Move2Green, and Kalmar is committed to investing 50 million euros. Additionally, the ecosystem is estimated to invest 50 million euros, with partners having access up to 50 million euros in Business Finland funding.

The total investment to advance the elimination of all carbon emissions in heavy material handling is estimated to be 170 million euros in 2025-2029.

What are the program's main themes?

The main themes are

  • Transition to electrification systems for heavy material handling
  • Alternative energy sources and storage
  • Net zero data-driven services and processes for optimised logistic chains
  • Responsibility, including enhancing safety, circularity, new materials, and quality assurance

See the Move2Green roadmap for more information.

How long is the program?

The program started in spring 2025, and it will last for five years.

What is the Move2Green ecosystem?

Kalmar can’t achieve Move2Green’s ambitious goals alone but invites companies, research institutions, and universities to join the Move2Green ecosystem and work together to advance the program's mission. This way, more organisations can focus on the same goals, results come faster, and we can gain valuable new viewpoints and capabilities from outside our organisation. The target is to build an ecosystem of 150 partners.

In what ways can a partner benefit from participating in the Move2Green ecosystem?

As a Move2Green ecosystem partner you can:

  • drive real impact and contribute to net-zero emission logistics chains
  • grow your business and create value
  • expand your competences
  • unlock funding. If Kalmar accepts a joint project with the Move2Green ecosystem, Finnish partners may submit a partnership funding application to Business Finland.

How can I join the ecosystem?

If you share our commitment to achieving net-zero emission logistics chains and have ideas or solutions in electrification, alternative energy sources or data-driven optimisation, we want to hear from you. By filling out the form on the Move2Green webpage, you can express your interest in joining the Move2Green ecosystem. You can also submit your idea or collaboration proposal there.

Is the Move2Green ecosystem limited to Finnish partners?

We also welcome non-Finnish companies to the Move2Green ecosystem, but Business Finland funding does not apply in those cases.
